Did you know..

companies that only send do not need to be registered in an SMP? An Access Point is sufficient. An SMP is necessary for any organisation that receives documents.

What is a Peppol SMP?

A SMP (Service Metadata Publisher) is a directory in which the recipient's metadata, which documents he can receive, and which Access Points he uses are stored.

When do you need a SMP?

For companies that only send, an Access Point is sufficient. An SMP is necessary for any organisation that receives documents.

SMP – exchange of documents via the Peppol network

For the exchange of documents via Peppol, both an Access Point and an SMP service are needed. The SMP ensures that the organisation can be found in the network and is required for receiving documents. When sending documents via the network, the SMP service is necessary for receiving status messages, as the recipient must send back a document with the status information, and for that, the sender must be traceable.

Peppol access point
You need a Peppol Access Point for the connection to the Peppol network. Such a connection is provided by a Billing Service Provider (BSP) like eConnect. This is best compared to a telephone provider. If you want to call or use the internet on your phone, you need access to the telecom network. For that connection, you need to go to a telecom provider like KPN or T-Mobile. This is how e-invoicing works on the Peppol network. Every eConnect customer has standard access to the Peppol network.

The most important thing when sending an invoice is that it is paid quickly and without errors. #PeppolFirst means that we automatically check if each customer has a connection to Peppol (with a Peppol ID). If so, the invoice is also sent via Peppol. Our software does everything automatically, so you don’t have to worry about it.
